Description of Palestinians and Israelis Side by Side

The People-to-People approach between Palestinians and Israelis had its roots in the 1970s and 1980s and it was an inherent part of the 1993 Oslo accords signed by the Government of Israel and the PLO. Its goal was to cultivate grassroots contacts between Israeli and Palestinian civil societies and to lay the foundations for a culture and constituency for peace and coexistence. Israelis and Palestinians continue encounters in sports, on TV panels, in cinema and theatre production, academic conferences and public events and others aspects of life. Some observations stand out: most Palestinians considered dialogue and joint activity as one form of their struggle against the Israeli occupation and its practices. The Israeli attitude was divided between those who considered it tool in the struggle for peace and those who came to meet Palestinians for cooperative purposes and to establish relations in an era of pace. This book contains observations by Israeli and Palestinian researchers and practitioners, as well as insightful observations from Irish, Norwegian and Canadian observers.
